A MASS rally by the Scottish Defence League against 'grooming gangs' is expected to take place in Glasgow this weekend.

The event will take place in George Square on Saturday with similar protests expected to happen elsewhere in the city.

The SDL, which is a subsidiary of the English Defence League, planned the protest following the jailing of former leader Tommy Robinson, above, for contempt of court over a case linked to alleged grooming.

Police Scotland confirmed that they are aware of the rally which will be "policed appropriately".

Superintendent John McBride, the officer in charge of the operation, said:”We are aware of a planned demonstration in Glasgow on Saturday, 21 July.

“Our planning for the event in well underway and it will be policed appropriately."

Glasgow Times:

Robinson admitted to broadcasting details of a trial under way at Leeds Crown Court on Facebook and was detained for 13 months.

His appeal against the jail sentence will be decided by the end of the month.
