STEVEN GERRARD admits he would ‘love’ to add to his Rangers squad before their Premiership opener with Aberdeen this weekend.

The Ibrox boss has made ten signings so far this summer as he has overhauled his Light Blues squad.

Rangers saw a £200,000 bid for striker Kyle Lafferty turned down by Hearts last week as Gerrard attempts to bolster his attacking options.

The 38-year-old refused to be drawn on the approach for Lafferty after seeing his side beat Wigan 3-0 in a friendly at Ibrox on Sunday.

But he remains in the hunt for another centre-back after a move for Manchester City kid Kean Bryan fell through on Friday.

Gerrard said: “We have loads of targets that we have been monitoring and looking at.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t get an agreement with Kean. He wants to keep his options open and we respect that.

“You can see quite clearly today that we need a centre-back so that is definitely an area that we are trying to add in. hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

“I would love that [for the deals to be done before the Aberdeen game]. I hope it is tomorrow. I am in a rush.”

Goals from Alfredo Morelos, Nikola Katic and Umar Sadiq were enough to see off Wigan in a comfortable friendly win.

And Gerrard is confident striker Morelos will be able to feature in the coming days despite limping off just minutes after opening the scoring.

He said: “I think it’s just a bang, he’ll get checked out but we’re not too concerned about it.

“He showed his importance again today, the first goal is always important.

“He’s in that area where we like him, and if we get the right deliveries and the right service into him he’ll score.

“The service I the first half wasn’t good enough. He’s a centre forward, a number nine for Rangers, and he’s feeding off bits and scraps. That’s not good enough.

“Second half, we got the service into him, and he delivered.

“I don’t know him well enough to know whether he is a confidence player. I’ve been around him for four or five weeks, and I’ve loved working with him.

“I can see a hunger and a glint in his eye that he wants to work and get himself in tip-top shape, and I think he’s reaping the reward of that now.

“He looks sharp, he’s horrible to play against because he’s so strong and so physical.

“He’s doing both sides of the game for his team, and his teammates are appreciating that.

“The rewards are always the goals, so it’s nice to see him back in the goals and hopefully there’s more to come.”
