A GANG of thieves armed with weapons left two men terrified after breaking into their home prior to a raid on a shop.

The gang-of-three entered the flat on Dalry Road, Ardrossan at around 2.40am on Monday where they threatened two men, aged 30 and 18, with weapons.

They then broke into the business premises below the flat and nicked a quantity of cigarettes.

Detective Constable Nicola Fraser, Saltcoats Police Office, said: “Although nobody was injured this was a terrifying attack for the two men who were within the flat above the shop where the goods were stolen."

Officers have been checking CCTV and making door to door enquiries. The force has also released a description of the men they believe are involved.

The first man is described as 6 ft, of slim build with a Scottish accent. He was wearing a black mask and dark clothing.

The second man is described as around 5ft 8 of stocky build.

Detectives said enquiries are being progressed to get a description of the third man.

DC Fraser added: “We are appealing for anyone with any information regarding this incident, or saw anybody matching these descriptions in the area at the time to come forward.

“We would also ask anyone who has been offered cigarettes for sale in the area to come forward and contact Police.”
