CITY cops are currently hunting for more than 2,000 suspects believed to have broken the law in Glasgow for crimes, including murder and rape.
Suspects who have managed to evade justice are also wanted for attempted murder, abduction, and assault and robbery.
Figures exclusively obtained by the Evening Times under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that a total of 2,055 outstanding arrest warrants exist for crimes allegedly committed in the Glasgow area - and cops are still hunting for those suspects. Of those warrants, the oldest dates back to March 17, 1997.
Some of the other crimes allegedly committed also include theft, drug dealing and drink driving.
Glasgow Conservative MSP Annie Wells, above, said: “It’s very alarming to learn that over 2,000 warrants remain outstanding for crimes in the Greater Glasgow area.
“With the oldest warrant stretching back over 20 years, I am concerned that victims and their families will be missing out on justice.
“Some of these cases involve the most heinous crimes including murder and rape, and Police Scotland must be given the resources in order to ensure that victims are not left facing agonising waits for information regarding their crimes and the alleged perpetrators.”
The most high profile cases remain on Police Scotland’s most wanted list.
Derek Ferguson, above, has evaded cops for over 20 years. He is wanted in connection with the murder of Thomas Cameron who was shot on June 28, 2007 at the Auchinairn Tavern in Bishopbriggs. Police believe Ferguson, who is known to use a fake Irish accent, could be in Spain, Netherlands or Ireland.
Israr Ali, above, is wanted for the murder of Waqar Shar at a flat in Shawlands in 2010. He is believed to be in Pakistan or France.
Jonathan Kelly, above, sparked a massive manhunt in Glasgow after failing to comply with licence conditions following his release from Low Moss Prison in 2014. He remains on the most wanted list.
Iraqi-born Rezgar Zengana, above, was convicted of raping a 25-year-old woman in Glasgow in 2006. He failed to appear for sentencing and is also on the list.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Outstanding arrest warrants are reviewed and all investigative opportunities to execute them will be pursued.”
