A FIRST World War aircraft will take flight this weekend over one of Glasgow’s most popular parks.
The model plane will circle Pollok Country Park tomorrow, as part of a new project, Wings to War: Glasgow and the birth of the Royal Air Force, exploring the city’s links to early aviation.
The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded a grant of £10,000 to deliver the project in partnership with Glasgow University, which is providing match funding.
The event will take place from 12pm to 5pm at Digging In, the WWI learning facility based around trench reconstructions in Pollok Park, opposite the children’s play park near the Haggs Road park exit.
Professor Tony Pollard, Professor of Conflict History and Archaeology at Glasgow University, said: “Being a model maker myself, I am really excited by this event, especially given the close connection of the university to the formation of the RAF in 1918.”
