A popular Shawlands restaurant has been forced to close its doors due to 'impossible' rent and rates.

Surf Dogs on Kilmarnock Road took the decision to cease trading yesterday as they claimed they were unable to keep up with the prices in the area.

The team announced the news on their Facebook page and thanked all of the people who were involved in the hot dog joint.

The statement read: "Regrettably, Surf Dogs has had to close its doors for the foreseeable future.

"Rent and rates has made this impossible, despite our best efforts."

"We would like to thank all who were involved in Surf Dogs’s journey so far, but most of all, we would like to thank our customers and community for being so amazing. We hope to see you all again in the near future."

Glasgow Times:

All hope is not lost as the team are looking into the possibility of hiring a new venue in a different part of the city.

They added: "We are exploring other parts of the city so we hope you will come visit us again when we re-open."

Fans of the restaurant were disheartened by the news with many wishing the owners luck with finding a new location.

One foodie said: "This is gutting news mate! I hope you get back on your feet soon dude!"

Another added: "Nooooo! I can't bear this! You have been so wonderful. Wish we had eaten with you every day now. Best of luck with everything in the future."

The restaurant famed themselves on providing customers with tasty gourmet hot dogs on freshly baked buns and 'curing hangovers daily'.

Fans of Surf Dogs have been warned to keep their eyes peeled for future events in the meantime.
