Police have been forced to publicly address rumours of a man approaching children in the Wyndford area after speculation on social media.
Officers have urged parents to report to them before sharing 'unsubstantiated reports and speculation on social media' in a post issued on Facebook.
It comes after comments were being shared regarding a man approaching children from a blue van in the Wyndford area in the last few days.

Extensive police enquiries found there was 'no substance to the allegations' but officers stopped the vehicle involved and spoke to the drivers.
They will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with road traffic offences.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We would also reiterate that whilst we understand parent’s concerns; unsubstantiated reports and speculation on social media sites can often be misleading and should not be the first port of call on reporting incidents or on receiving factual information.

"If you have any concerns, wish advice or wish to report anything suspicious in your area then please contact your local police office through 101."
