RANGERS fans are to be held inside Celtic Park for 15 minutes after Sunday’s Old Firm match.

Only 800 supporters of the Ibrox club will be at Parkhead - a far cry from the usual 6,000 - amid a ticket allocation row between both clubs.

Police Scotland said the move has been implemented in the past and aims to ensure both sets of fans will be able to leave the stadium safely.

Chief inspector Simon Jeacock said: “Rangers fans will be held back inside the stadium after the final whistle.

“This is for their own safety.

“We estimate the hold back will last approximately 15 minutes.

“As soon as stadium is empty of home support, we will start to allow away support to leave.

“I would urge Rangers fans to be patient.”

As reported last month, Celtic called for talks in an Old Firm tickets allocation row after confirming it would be restricting sales to Rangers fans at Sunday’s derby clash.

The club acted after Rangers made a declaration in May to end a mutual agreement which allowed more than 7,000 fans go to the games at Ibrox and Parkhead.

Celtic then confirmed it would follow suit on Rangers’ plans to offer about 800 tickets to their Glasgow rivals at the Old Firm derby on Sunday - but called for discussions on the matter involving the Scottish Professional Football League governing body.
