Kieran Tierney expects Celtic’s £9m man Odsonne Edouard will win his race to be fight for Thursday night’s Europa League tie against Salzburg in Austria – and believes that the striker got off lucky from being on the wring end of Scott McKenna’s tackle on Saturday.

Edouard’s afternoon was curtailed due to a deadleg sustained in a scissor-kick challenge from the Aberdeen defender, with Brendan Rodgers explaining after the game that Celtic would need to wait on how the Frenchman reacted over the coming days to the injury.

However, Tierney has revealed that Edouard was able to join in training yesterday at Lennoxtown with the Parkhead side confident that he will be able to play a role against the Austrians tomorrow night.

“He’s fine – he’s back training with us,” said Tierney.

“You saw the tackle. “It’s one of those things you can’t say too much about; you just need to get on with it and hope that something like that doesn’t happen to you – you continue to challenge in a fair manner and hope that nothing bad happens.

“Odsonne got lucky because his foot hadn’t been planted. It looked a really sore one at the time, though, so to have him back on the training ground is great for us.

“I saw the photograph that Odsonne put on social media – and I saw Broony’s comment underneath it as well. [Scott McKenna] probably never meant to do it but it’s just one of those things – anyone can mistime a challenge.”

Meanwhile, the Celtic winger has challenged Hearts to cope with the pressure at the top of the table.

Craig Levein’s table-toppers play Rangers at Ibrox this weekend with Tierney wondering how the Tynecastle side will cope with the pressure the longer their run goes on.

“That could be interesting because usually the pressure is on us to lead from the front but they’re sitting on top of the Premiership and they haven’t lost to anyone yet so the pressure will eventually build on them,” he said.

“At Celtic, we’re used to dealing with that pressure all the time. Hearts have had a great start and proved that they’re really hard to beat – we already know that because, when we lost to them at Tynecastle, it was a really tough game.

“It’s good for the division that so many teams are challenging at this early stage but, for us, we want to climb up the table.

“People talk about a title challenge and, especially when there’s so much chatter about us, we just want to work hard and go out there and do what we’ve always done.

“We’re not looking to prove anybody wrong; it’s more about proving ourselves right and get back to where in the two previous seasons – or as close as we possibly can.”

And Tierney also insisted that he was thrilled for Scott Sinclair to get back on the scoresheet at the weekend.

The team-mates share a friendship off the pitch and the Scotland internationalists was delighted with Sinclair’s goal.

“You’d need to speak to him about how he feels but he’s been working hard and doing extra sessions practising his shooting, crossing and dribbling,” said Tierney. “

He’s been in the gym as well.

“His attitude is 100% right so it’s just about being given a chance and then taking it, which he did at the weekend.

“I don’t know how manygoals he’s scored since he’s been here – probably not too far off 40 – and that shows you that, even though he’s a winger, he’s also a goalscorer.

“Scott’s a natural finisher and it’s great to have someone like that in the box, someone who can provide a back-heeled finish like he did against Aberdeen to give us the three points.”
