COPS were carrying out thorough searches in a bid to stamp out dangerous flares being let off during the match. 

Supporters around the stadium were subject to the tough measures on the back of Thursday’s Europa League qualifier match which was halted when Legia Warsaw fans let off dangerous flares at Ibrox Stadium.

Female supporters were asked if their bags could be searched with every item including purses scanned while police and stewards patted down supporters and checked for concealed items.

Specialist officers from the Mounted Branch and Dog Unit separated the opposing sides along the Broomloan Road. 

Mounted Branches horses also wore guards to protect their sight from dangerous flares. 

Most Celtic supporters were in the stadium at least two hours before kick-off. 

Teams of officers marched around the stadium to keep an eye on fans.

The force's top cops including Assistant Chief Constable Bernard Higgins were keeping an eye on things from Police Scotland's control room in Govan. 

In a message on social media to fans, Police Scotland said: "Our focus is ensuring you have a safe, enjoyable afternoon, and fans attending the match can help us do that by behaving in a responsible manner. Be loud, be proud, but please also behave."
