POLICE are investigating a firearms incident in East Kilbride - after gunshots were heard.

The force confirmed that they were called to Walpole Lane in the town's Jackton on Sunday night after receiving a report that gunshots were heard.

Officers investigating said the report is credible - and have deemed the attack as planned and targeted. 

The force, however, has no report that anyone was injured.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.40pm on Sunday 15 September 2019, police were called to Walpole Lane, Jackton, East Kilbride after a report was received that gunshots were heard.

"Officers attended and carried out a search of the area, there are no reports of anyone injured.

"We consider the reports to be credible. Officers are at the scene continuing  enquiries today to establish the exact details surrounding this incident, at this stage our assessment is that this was a planned and targeted act."

It comes after we reported on another shooting in the town last week which left two people in hospital. 

The double shooting happened on Gordon Drive in East Kilbride shortly after 11 pm on Tuesday.

Two men wearing balaclavas burst into a flat before shooting a 30-year-old man. He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital with a leg injury.

Glasgow Times:

Another man, aged 31, was waiting in a Volkswagen Passat outside the flat when he was shot after being followed by the two attackers. He was treated in hospital for facial injuries before discharging himself.

The force are treating the shooting as attempted murder. Officers said they were not linking the incidents at this stage. 

A Police Scotland spokeswoman added: "The investigation is at an early stage, as such we are making no links to any other incidents at this time.

"There are additional patrols in the area as this investigation continues."
