CHRISTMAS has come early for a lucky Evening Times reader who has won £1000.

John Percy, 94, from Easterhouse, landed the prize in this month's home delivery contest.

The grandfather-of-two and wildlife lover has been reading the Evening Times for more than 60 years, and said he would use the funds to "have a good Christmas".

He was presented with a cheque at the Glasgow home he shares with his wife Frances by our home delivery sales executive Graham Kerr.

Part of the cash has been given away already to friends and family, with Mr Percy planning to use the rest to fund a festive feast for his family on Christmas Day.

Evening Times editor Tony Carlin said: "Our junior agents do an incredible job making sure thousands of people a day receive the Evening Times free of charge.

"I'm delighted that such a loyal reader as Mr Percy has won the prize which is another of the benefits of signing up for home delivery."

Mr Percy was picked at random for the contest just for having a copy of the paper delivered.

More than 1000 junior agents, usually aged 13 to 16, distribute 16,000 copies of the paper each day, from Monday to Saturday, across Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
