Glasgow’s property market has been boosted with the sale of 21 houses for £1million or more within the past year.

House sales in the city rose by 9% in the last quar­ter of last year compared to the same time in 2008.

And Scotland is leading the rest of the UK’s high end housing market out of recession as the most expensive properties are once again being bought. In Greater Glas­gow there were 21 sales at £1m and above, say estate agent Savills.

Edinburgh’s figure was 42, including Scotland’s most expensive property of 2009 priced at £3.75m.

Renfrewshire had nine transactions at £1m or over in 2009. A study found East Renfrew­shire is the most expensive place in Scotland to buy with average prices in some areas £214,000.

Sales of £1m or above in Scotland fell by 64% from a 293 homes peak in 2007 to 106 last year but 61% of last year’s transactions were recorded in the second half of 2009.

The average house price in Scotland is now £140,532 and £135,784 in Glasgow.
