Big name stores are taking part in the mall's fourth annual festive jobs drive.

And with another day of recruiting getting under way today, organisers say they are set to break their record for people turning out.

Susan Nicol, general manager of the St Enoch Centre, said: "We've had an absolutely terrific response to the first day with more than 2000 people coming along. Many others have also pre-registered their details online.

"This is the fourth year we've held the fair and that's the biggest response we've had yet. And with another day still to go we're anticipating a very busy day today."

Traders at the mall want to recruit 300 temporary staff for the festive season and have promised some will end up with permanent posts.

Recruits are wanted by 18 retailers and are expected to be given a variety of tasks from working on tills to stocking shelves.

Leading outlets represented at the event include Hamleys, Debenhams, the Disney Store, Boots, Tesco, BHS, Dorothy Perkins, Game, Fossil, H Samuel, Perfume Shop, JD Sports, Henleys Sweet Shop, Top Shop and Warren James.

The fair is being staged outside the BHS store on the mall's first floor again today from noon until 7pm.

Last year almost 3400 people chased 300 vacancies – the equivalent of 11 people for every job.

The St Enoch Working Recruitment Fair is organised by Glasgow's Regeneration Agency, Jobcentre Plus and Skills Development Scotland with the aid of traders and mall chiefs.

Launched in 2009, St Enoch Working provides employability support to the people of Glasgow throughout the year.

Last week the Glasgow Fort shopping centre held its own jobs fair.

Hundreds turned out and 360 people were recruited, with a promise that 70 would be offered full-time posts.

And high street chain Argos also announced this week it is on the hunt for 12,000 temporary festive staff across the UK.

The retailer hopes to fill up to 970 posts across its Glasgow stores.

Job hunters who are unable to attend the fair can register online at www.stenochworking.com or visit the St Enoch Working unit on the first floor of the mall from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday for information on all vacancies.
