Residents are finally able to return home after years of construction to rebuild flats devastated by a terror blaze.

The fire on December 9 2019 displaced over 2000 residents and destroyed 24 of the 92 apartments on Lancefield Quay, as The Glasgow Times previously reported.

Work to restore the landmark building along the River Clyde has now been completed by principal contractors Linear Design & Construction (LDC), on behalf of the company that represents the owners, Lancefield Quay Riverside Ltd.

Glasgow-based project management company, Nixon, worked with LDC to consult with the flat owners and customize each unit destroyed by the fire to each’s particular design.

Ken Robertson, a representative from Lancefield Quay Riverside Ltd, said: “Our priority was always to restore our landmark building back to its original form for our residents and we have been able to do this.

“The work of the team of architects, engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors and principal designers at Nixon allowed us as a client to experience a collaborative approach to the reinstatement works.

“Working closely with Nixon and its contractors, we are delighted that residents were able to return to their homes and to see Lancefield Quay restored along the River Clyde.”

Ryan Broadley, managing director at LDC, added: “Lancefield Quay is an iconic property on the banks of the Clyde and its restoration is a key part of maintaining this prestigious building, so we’re delighted to have played our part in bringing it back to its former glory and providing the homeowners with an exceptional end product.

“This completion represents a milestone for the team and continues to showcase our knowledge, skill and expertise, working with great partners to achieve the optimal result. “I am extremely proud with the quality of the work we’ve been able to deliver for the 22 homeowners after such an awful experience with the fire in 2019. “We wish them all well in their restored properties for many years to come.”

Dominic MacConnell, project manager at Nixon, acknowledges the challenges the team faced with completing the works throughout the pandemic.

He said: “We would like to thank all the partners, in particular, our appointed principal contractor, Linear Design & Construct, which worked with us to bring this project to completion as we restored this landmark site. “At the start of the project, we could never have anticipated that we would be dealing with a pandemic and yet everyone in their respective teams came together to restore the apartments and return residents to their homes.”
