22 city jobs face axe

TRAVEL giant Thomas Cook intends to close five Glasgow branches with the loss of 22 jobs.

Staff in Knightswood, Shawlands, Clydebank, Dumbarton and Bearsden learned their fate yesterday.

The holiday group, which also includes Co-operative Travel, has entered into a 90-day consultation period.

The proposed cuts are part of proposals to close 195 of its agencies across the UK and Ireland and cut 2500 jobs – 16% of the workforce.

The firm said the moves were being made as part of a restructuring and to slash administration costs.

Thomas Cook is also planning to shut its Accrington office in Lancashire, affecting around 100 employees.

Administrative and managerial jobs are also at risk in Peterborough and Preston.
