A MAN is due to appear in court following a "serious assault" in Johnstone town centre.

We previously reported that a 47-year-old man was arrested following the alleged "stabbing" on Thursday afternoon.

He has since been charged and is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Cops were called to Houston Square at 3.45pm. The area was locked down by officers and forensics scoured the scene.

A 45-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

He remains there in a serious condition.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Houston Square in Johnstone at around 3.45pm on Thursday, March 23, after a 45-year-old man was assaulted.

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he received treatment for life-threatening injuries.

"His condition remains serious but stable at this time.

“A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"He’s due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, March 27, 2023.”
