A new sports bar and games club is set to open in Johnstone town centre next year.

Houston's will be located at 50 A High Street, which was previously occupied by Rileys snooker club several decades ago.

While an official opening date is yet to be announced, it is hoped the new venue will start welcoming customers in January.

Stephen Billsdon, co-owner of Houston's, said renovation work taking place inside the building was almost complete.

He told The Glasgow Times: "Over the next month, we're just finishing the fit out as everything has been updated.

Glasgow Times:

"It was previously a Rileys snooker club but I believe it's not been in use for around 30 years and was in a terrible state when we purchased it.

"There were problems with the roof that we couldn't get fixed for a number of years but the building is now watertight and ready to go."

Images of Houston's signage, which was recently installed at the front of the venue, has already been shared widely on local Facebook groups.

Stephen said: "We looked at different snooker-type clubs and ball games clubs, and we decided to brand ours as more of a funky, modern venue.

"There will be a number of different games within the hall, not just pool, and we're looking at having a live sports cinema as well.

"We've teamed up with Odeon to use their seats for our cinema and next to the pool tables as well.

"We've also got private party booking rooms, a nice big lounge and a commercial kitchen."

Customers will be able to choose from a selection of food, such as pizza and burgers, from a menu that is still being finalised.

Stephen added: "It's getting exciting now, as all the lovely decor is getting put in.

"It's quite a different, unique place and I think it's going to be a fantastic venue for Johnstone.

"I'm really looking forward to the locals having something new that they can enjoy."
