Have you ever wondered why people wait more than an hour in freezing weather conditions to pose with the Coca-Cola truck? We did too.

The iconic Christmas symbol pulled into Silverburn this afternoon kicking off the festive season with its annual tour.

A massive line appeared before the event had even started with eager families desperate for their turn.

So with the queue only getting longer, we wondered; what motivates crowds to travel across Scotland to see the famous truck in person?

Is it to post on social media? Or is it the free mini Coke can samples? Or perhaps maybe it means a little bit more…

We asked visitors why they return each year and were blown away by the emotionally charged reasons that keep them coming back.

One mum, Colleen Richards, travelled from Ayrshire to see the truck to find Christmas cheer after recently losing a family member.

She told us: “This year is hard for us because we lost my nephew who was a young dad just two weeks ago.

“There are singers performing all different Christmas songs which really gave that festive feeling which lately I have been struggling to find.

“We came here today to keep our traditions and try to find the festive spirit. It has been a really special day.

“My family has come every year since my kids were wee, my oldest will be 15 next month.

“We like doing it because you can look back on all the years you visited and see them growing up. It is just so wonderful.”

We also spoke to Blair Cameron, 23, who travelled from Kilsyth, who told us he had been eagerly waiting all year for the truck.

He said: “I come every year to see the Coca-Cola Christmas truck, I am autistic and a transport enthusiast.

“I love seeing it at this time of year. It is a very nice truck, I look forward to it every single year.

“I keep an eye on the website all the time to see when it is coming. It means a lot to me, the truck is very nice.

“It has been a really nice day. I really enjoyed it.”

Parents brought their kids out to start their own traditions, including Courtney Miller and baby Evie, who was visiting for the first time.

Courtney said: “This is Evie’s first proper Christmas so we wanted to come out and see the truck.”

Parents Annalise Oliver and Chris Booth also wanted to make their daughter's Christmas special by bringing Arabella along to see the red truck.

They said: “We wanted to come out and see the truck because it is our daughter's first Christmas.

“We hadn’t ever visited before but wanted to get into the spirit this weekend, it is great.”

The truck pulled into Silverburn car park on Friday, November 24 from 12pm to 8pm for one day and will keep sharing Christmas joy as it travels around the rest of the UK.
