Our photographer Gordon Terris captured this image of the 'elusive' animal near Glasgow Green on Thursday, January 4.

The otter is described by the RSPB as one of the most difficult to spot in and around Glasgow, and is often confused for much the smaller American mink, but are seen less frequently.

Despite being a rare sighting, they have been spotted more frequently in the River Clyde, North Calder, River Kelvin, White Cart Water and the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The slightly more common sightings are thought to be thanks to the cleaner water in rivers which means they have more prey to catch.
