MERCHANT City residents took to the streets for their most successful litter pick so far.
The locals and Trongate community councillors came together to collect 30 bags of rubbish in just a few hours on Saturday morning.
The main problems encountered included discarded boxes outside fast food takeaways, bottles left in alleyways, broken glass and cigarette butts outside licensed premises, cigarette packets, plastic and polythene wrappings, and rubbish left at bus stops.
A spokesperson for the community council said: “Glasgow City Council’s cleansing staff do a great job throughout the year but they need help from every single resident and visitor.
"We’re keen to improve local people’s pride in our wonderful city and are delighted to work alongside the city council to help keep it clean.
“We are grateful for the enthusiastic support of local residents who turned up and are now considering holding a litter pick more often.”
