East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure has announced the opening of a brand new functional fitness space at Barrhead Foundry.

Called The Grid, it is described as a “dynamic, versatile and modern fitness environment,” with a focus on small group and individual training sessions.

It boasts a 70sqm turf workout area containing a wide range of new equipment, bringing life to a previous underutilised space at the Foundry.

Glasgow Times:

Kenny McDonnell, Gyms and Fitness Team Leader at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: "We are very excited to unveil our brand new functional gym space, The Grid, at Barrhead Foundry.

"We were able to realise our goal of creating this new environment for our customers, in conjunction with Alliance Leisure and their partners.

"The Grid will host training sessions for small groups, including new classes GridRox and GridBox.

"For individual gym sessions, The Grid also features a spacious turfed area with brand new equipment, including fitness rigs, cardio equipment, half racks, slam balls, wall balls, adjustable cable, prowler and full complement of barbells and weight plates.

"A new sound system and lighting completes the perfect work-out space.

"Our exceptional team of gym and fitness instructors will be on hand to lead our new classes and lend their expertise to utilise the new gym equipment at The Grid and to support our customers in achieving their fitness goals."

The new space was delivered over a four week period by Alliance Leisure, appointed to the project by East Renfrewshire Council.

Jo Cameron, Delivery Manager at Alliance Leisure, said: "As our first project with East Renfrewshire Council, this was an exciting opportunity, showing the enormous potential of transforming this space into a thriving activity hub that would deliver significant value to the local community. We are looking forward to supporting the launch of this project and the growth in membership over the coming period."

The official opening ceremony was attended by Council Leader Owen O’Donnell and Councillor Andrew Anderson, East Renfrewshire’s Convener for Education, Equalities, Culture and Leisure.

Councillor Anderson said: “The Grid is a fantastic addition for the local community. Gym users will appreciate the additional exercise space and classes at Barrhead Foundry, alongside the existing gym space, swimming pool, café and library. The staff are knowledgeable, can offer their expertise on using the new equipment as part of their workout routine and are always open to ideas around what can be done next.”
