MORE than 50,000 volunteers signed up to be part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Organisers confirmed the record breaking number – which is higher than previous volunteer applications for both Melbourne 2006 and Manchester 2002 Games – as 50,811.
Early indications show applications from across Scotland, as well as the UK and internationally.
The campaign to recruit up to 15,000 volunteers for the Games launched on Monday, January 14.
Entries closed at midnight, last night, and the first interviews will be held in April.
David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 chief executive, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the numbers and want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign."
