NORTH Swindon Library is throwing open its doors to young bookworms to get their feedback on how the library service could be improved.

The event is part of the Reading Agency programme Participate, which is an initiative designed to promote libraries’ engagement with young people through participation.

The Swindon Borough Council-run library, which is located next to Asda Walmart in the Orbital Shopping Centre, will be open to young people on Monday, March 1, from 6.30 to 8.30pm.

The evening will include a free drumming workshop, music, a Casualty-style make-up session from Swindon College’s Media Make-up Department and information stalls on the library service. There will also be a chill out area with refreshments and stalls where young people can have their say on North Swindon Library.

Youth Librarian Anish Harrison said: “With the new joining procedures for young people, there’s never been a better time to become a library member.

“Here at Swindon libraries we’re trying to offer a quality service by working with young people, rather than telling them ‘this is what you should have.

“As well as an opportunity to have fun and learn a new skill, those young people who attend and take part in the evening’s activities could get the chance to have a free DVD hire of a new release film. If you have a Citizencard, bring that along to become a library member.”
