SWINDON Supermarine boss Mark Collier was just glad to hear the final whistle after his side threw away a 3-0 lead against high-flying Bashley last night.

Collier’s men looked firm favourites having roared to a three-goal lead on 47 minutes.

However, a second-half onslaught from Bashley saw the visitors stage a stunning comeback.

Nick Stanley’s early double put Supermarine in control, the striker scoring the opener on six minutes before extending Marine’s lead 20 minutes later.

Luke Hopper added a third two minutes after half-time but it was all Bashley after that. Adam Kelly got the visitor’s first on 57 minutes before Mark Gamble scored the second on 69 minutes.

And, with Supermarine desperately trying to hold on for all three points, Gamble struck again with just eight minutes remaining.

But Collier remained upbeat claiming it was still a very valuable point.

“Come the end of the season that point could be very important,” said Collier. “Yes we are disappointed that we lost a 3-0 lead and didn’t win.

“But we would have taken a point against one of the league’s best form teams away from home before the match so we have to be happy. Most teams will have lost one or 2-0 to Bashley but we have earned a point.

“They absolutely battered us in the second half, in the end I was just glad to hear the whistle because we were hanging on.”

Marine also lost Chris Allen to injury while new signing David Bampton pulled out prior to kick-off because of illness.

In Division One South and West, Cirencester Town beat Bishops Cleeve 1-0.
