TWO brothers from Radlett are in training for London's gruelling marathon run.

Paul and Mark Gilbank have joined forces in order to raise money for the children's charities Whizz-Kids and the National Deaf Children's Society.

It's the second marathon for eldest brother Paul Gilbank, 34, of Watling Street, who ran the 2008 marathon in four hours and 34 minutes.

Paul Gilbank, who is hoping to improve on his time, said: “We've been running 10 miles every other day for the past three months in preparation, so we're getting there.”

Asked who would make it past the finish line first, Paul Gilbank said; “Even though I'm the oldest, I think I'm definitely more ready than Mark. He'll get round, but I think he'll struggle.

“Sibling rivalry is certainly involved. I keep trying to out run him, but he has stuck to his guns and I can't loose him, so yeah, he's doing well.”

But 30-year-old Mark Gilbank believes he'll be first past the post.

He said: “Paul's mentally stronger than me, but I'm physically the strongest. He's usually too far behind me so there is not even a chance to banter.”

But despite differing accounts on their abilities the two agree the marathon is a worthwhile event.

Paul Gilbank said: “It's such a great day, there's a great atmosphere and everyone's cheering you on. It's also for a great cause so you can't go wrong. Plus it keeps you fit as well.”

Mark Gilbrank agreed, adding: “I can't wait to do it. It's my first time so hopefully it'll be alright. It's just one of those things you want to tick off.”
