Children made bookmarks and listened to stories at Eccleshill Library as part of a number of events to mark World Book Day yesterday.

There was also an activity session at the Bolton Road library. A total of 25 libraries and two mobile libraries were holding events across the district to celebrate the day.

Six specially-produced £1 books are available which can be bought with £1 book tokens given to nursery and primary age children through schools.

Bradford Library has teamed up with Waterstones to offer children a chance to exchange their vouchers at Central Library tomorrow from 11am.

Councillor Anne Hawkes-worth, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment and culture, said: “This is a great opportunity to celebrate books and reading and promote a love of literature to children. Anything that encourages our children and young people to start reading and begin a lifelong love of books is welcome.”
