A PRISONER detained under the mental health act for stabbing a man to death in Haringey is being hunted by police after escaping from hospital.

Fida Mohammed Utmanzi, 20, escaped from North London Clinic in Church Street, Edmonton, at 7.23pm last night.

Utmanzi was detained indefinitely under the mental health act after being convicted of the manslaughter of Rasool Khan at the Old Bailey on January 8.

Mr Khan was stabbed to death at an address in West Green Road, Tottenham, on March 3, 2009.

Police were alerted by the hospital shortly after Utmanzi escaped.

Utmanzi was born in Afghanistan and was last seen wearing black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with white stripes on the sides. He was also wearing a navy blue hooded top and grey trainers.

He is 6ft 1in tall and thin with short black hair. He is also known to have cigarette burns on his arms.

Utmanzi has previous connections to the Tottenham, Fulham and Putney areas of London. He has also spent time in Newcastle.

Police are advising the public not to approach Utmanzi, but to call them immediately on 999.
