Residents Association.

THE speaker at the March meeting was a puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind, with her dog Piper who she has had since she was seven weeks old and is leaving next week for further training .

The idea for guide dogs was first thought of during WWI but it wasn’t until 1931 that the scheme began. The puppy walking scheme began in 1950. They have to be taken out as much as possible and taken into shops, schools etc. The dogs retire when they are nine-years-old and the owners can then keep them as a pet.

It was a very interesting talk and Piper was very well behaved. The association gave a donation to the charity.

The next meeting is the AGM on April 6, 2.30pm.

Social Club.

AT the March meeting Dr Stubbs gave a talk about ‘Tools with a Mission’ a charity which collects unwanted tools and haberdashery items to send to African countries. It costs over £3000 to send a container ship from Ipswich to Africa and it is hoped members will turn out their sheds and cupboards for unwanted items.

Walks have been planned for March 24 and April 14. On April 23 there will be a coffee morning at the Oakwood Centre and April 28 is the annual fish and chip lunch.

The next meeting is on April 7 when Bob Kettle from Photovogue will answer questions about cameras and photography. The club meets at the Baker Hall at 2.15pm. All welcome.
