POLICE have today arrested 11 people in connection with an investigation into a so called ‘crash for cash’ insurance fraud.

The ten men and one woman, including two men from Bolton, were arrested when officers visited a number of addresses in the Lancashire and Greater Manchester areas this morning.

All have been arrested on suspicion of fraud and will be interviewed at Blackburn police station during the course of the day.

The two arrests in Bolton were made at Bridgeman Street and Balmore Close.

Temporary Chief Inspector Kevin Evans, of Blackburn Police, said: “Operation Klymene is a Lancashire Constabulary led investigation conducted with the assistance of Greater Manchester Police into people suspected of committing ‘crash for cash’ insurance fraud.

“As a result of this investigation a number of addresses have been searched in both the Lancashire and Greater Manchester resulting in a number of arrests for fraud related offences.

“It is estimated that this type of Crime results in costs of up to £45 a year for every genuine insurance premium customer throughout the country.

“Lancashire Constabulary is committed to reducing crime to make our communities safer and reduce the cost of crime to everyone.”

The men arrested in Bolton are aged 31 and 18.
