Having read Jordan Salanke’s letter (‘An easy target’, Your Views, March 5), I feel a reply is justified. Parking half on the pavement and half on the road is actually illegal.

The police are not using anyone as an easy target and giving out fines for whatever reason, they are simply upholding the law.

Students are not the only ones parking illegally — so do parents who drop off and pick up their children on cycle paths, yellow lines, bus stops and, most importantly, the zig zag lines at the pedestrian crossings outside Hertswood School sites.

It has become increasingly difficult for residents to get in or out of driveways when this type of parking takes place.

In this day and age, students are really lucky to be able to afford cars. Good luck to you, but please have respect for the law and especially the safety of others.

But if you are fed up with being targeted, as you put it, noticing the distance you live from the school we suggest you walk.
