DISAPPOINTED Harriers boss Steve Burr admitted that it will take a huge effort to make the FA Trophy final after they were mauled 5-1 at Aggborough by Stevenage Borough in the semi-final first leg on Saturday.

The Aggborough outfit were blown away by goals for David Bridges (2), Chris Beardsley (2) and Yemi Odubade.

They now face a return leg at Broadhall Way needing a miracle to knockout the 2007 and 2009 winners.

Burr said: "The thing in football nothing's impossible.

"It's going to be difficult, very difficult, I'm not going to stand here and say it's not.

"We've also got a big game on Tuesday and need to respond.

"The lads have been teriffic since I've been here and it was very uncharacteristic from what I've seen of the players since joining.

"If Stevenage had played us off the park and opened us up I would have held my hands up, but I'm more disappointed with how we haven't dealt with things.

"You've got to put it behind because there's no point dwelling on what's happened, that's in the past.

"What's gone is gone and we have to build again and pick them up on Monday because it's a very quiet dressing room."

Harriers, who go to promotion chasing Luton in the Blue Square Premier on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off), had started well when they went down 1-0 against the run of play.

Centreback Gavin Caines levelled the scores in spectacular fashion but Stevenage were far too clinical and took all their chances.

Harriers' manager blamed defensive errors for three of the goals that lead to the heavy defeat.

“It doesn’t matter what level of football you’re playing at, if you concede the goals that we did today then you’re going to lose matches.

“I’m bitterly disappointed because if you take the three mistakes out I didn’t think we played that badly to be honest.

“Since I’ve been here we’ve defended set-pieces well but today we took our eye off the ball and as a team we were short on what we had been doing.”
