The culinary delight is such a big hit that bosses at a nationwide restaurant chain have decided the Scottish-themed dish should be available all year round and have put it permanently on the menu.

Mikey Scott, chef at the Handmade Burger Co. eaterie in Silverburn Shopping Centre, said he had a "light bulb" moment when he hit on the idea of a burger in memory of the Bard.

Named simply as the Haggis Stuffed Burger, it comprises a mouth watering beef burger stuffed with 60g of haggis, with a peppercorn sauce and garlic and mustard spice mix.

The 26-year-old kitchen wizard from Pollok got the go-ahead to trial his creation only to discover burger officiados couldn't get enough of his foody invention.

The Haggis Stuffed Burger has literally gone down a treat and is so popular the owners of the Birmingham-based restaurant chain have opted to put it on the menu. It's now available all year round at the Homemade Burger Co's four outlets in Scotland.

Mikey said: "It was great news when I heard my idea had been taken on board by the company."

Sale figures are confidential but it's thought the burger has become a firm favourite among customers, even though the dish costs £8.25. Mikey added: "It was my wish to try and impress burger fanatics and hopefully appeal to Scottish customers."

David Pierotti, general manager at the popular South Side mall, said: "We are delighted to have such a talented and inventive chef at Silverburn's Handmade Burger Co restaurant.

"Mikey's haggis burger is a fantastic concept and has been hugely successful with Silverburn's visitors - it's the eatery's bestselling stuffed burger."
