FLOWER power could make a return to Glasgow's East End.

Enthusiasts who want to transform a derelict site into a wild flower meadow have been told they have the chance to win £100,000 of Big Lottery Funding.

The creation of a hill of flowers, pathways and a multi sports facility on a plot of land not far from the new Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome at Dalmarnock are planned by activists from Camlachie who are working in partnership with the West of Scotland Housing Association and Glasgow City Council.

Councillor Archie Graham, executive member for the Commonwealth Games at the city council, said: "Our project puts people at the heart of the transformation of their own community and gives them the opportunity to help build and benefit from a real, lasting legacy of their city having hosted the Commonwealth Games."

Maureen McGinn who chairs the Big Lottery Fund Scotland Committee, added: "The Big Lottery Fund is proud to be supporting a project which will transform communities, especially young people, as they help regenerate sites in need of some tender loving care."
