A BUDGET airline is to lay on a special flight to take Celtic fans from Glasgow to Barcelona to watch their team play at the Camp Nou Stadium in the UEFA Champions League.
Return tickets, costing from £266, went on sale today with Jet2.com promising to have Parkhead fans in the Spanish city in plenty of time before the kick-off.
Airline chiefs currently operate three flights to Barcelona each week but have decided to organise a football special after the Old Firm club's dramatic extra time win over Shakhter Karagandy at Celtic Park earned them a glamour Euro tie against the Spanish giants on Wednesday, December 11.
The Jet2 flight will leave Glasgow Airport at 7am on the day of the game and will touch down in Barcelona at 10.45am local time.
It gives Celtic fans plenty of time to enjoy one of the world's most beautiful cities before their team kicks-off later that night.
The return flight leaves Barcelona the following day at 12.30pm.
No overnight packages have been organised but the airline's sister firm, Jet2holidays, can offer accommodation to supporters.
One example given is an overnight double/twin room after the match in a two-star hotel for £333 per person. The price includes the return air fare.
Jet2 will be using a Boeing 737-300 plane which can carry 189 fans.
The airline organised a football special to Barcelona last October. It was a sell out, although Celtic lost 2-1 on the night.
Jet2's chief commercial officer Steve Heapy said: "We are delighted to be able to help Celtic fans get to Barcelona again for this all important UEFA Champions League tie.
"It's going to be a real crunch match at the famous Camp Nou Stadium as Celtic fight to get revenge for last year's loss on foreign soil. There will be a fantastic atmosphere on the night - guaranteed."
The flight is a double boost for Glasgow Airport after the Evening Times revealed last night how airline bosses at Icelandair are laying on extra flights to the city in the run -up to next summer's Commonwealth Games.
