MOVIE star Alan Rickman is to attend Glasgow Film Festival for the Scottish premiere of a period drama he directed and stars in.

A Little Chaos follows Sabine, played by Kate Winslet, a strong willed landscape designer who is chosen to build one of the main gardens at King Louis XIV's new palace at Versailles.

Rickman, who plays the king, will attend the gala screening on Saturday February 21 at Glasgow Film Theatre.

The film had its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in 2014 and is set for general release in the UK in April.

It is being screened as part of Glasgow Film Festival which runs from February 18 until March 1.

Rickman made his first movie appearance opposite Bruce Willis in Die Hard as the villain Hans Gruber.

He went on to star in Anthony Minghella's Truly Madly Deeply and was the noble Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility.

The London born actor took on the part of Judge Turpin in the movie adaptation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and introduced himself to a whole new younger, generation of fans as Severus Snape in the movie versions of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

He again played the role in the eighth and last movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
