GLASGOW is celebrating Thanksgiving US style ...

with a giant pumpkin.

The monster weighs in at a massive half a tonne and it will be used by the Grand Central Hotel to make traditional American pumpkin tarts for their guests.

One of the hotel's suppliers gifted them the pumpkin to help celebrate today's big US holiday.

Tartlets made of the contents will be given to the first 50 guests to check into the hotel today.

The pumpkin will also be used to make various other dishes including soups and pies for the holiday, a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year.

Sous chef Stuart Milligan took time out to inspect the giant vegetable with Nicola Duffy and Megan Davies of US-style precision dance troupe the Rockettes.

Stuart then set off to help turn the pumpkin into the various holiday delights.

Laurie Nicol, general manager at the hotel said she and her team were looking forward to treating their guests to the seasonal treats.

She said: 'We are very excited to be celebrating Thanksgiving and will be treating guests to a host of goodies made with our half tonne pumpkin."
