GLASGOW City Council has separated its 74 parks into three classifications - local, district and city parks.

There are five parks with city park status - the Botanic Gardens, Glasgow Green, Kelvingrove, Bellahouston and Pollok Country Park - which means the council spends much more money on them.

The criteria for this status are they must attract large numbers of visitors, both residents and visitors to the city, be a substantial size and of historic importance which can contain major visitor attractions.

There are 13 district parks which provide quality open spaces, but also have a specific attraction, resource or potential resource which attracts visitors from other parts of the Glasgow area.

The district parks are Queen's Park, Alexandra, Auchinlea, Cathkin Braes, Darnley Mill Country Park, Dawsholm and Garscadden Burn

Hogganfield Park, George Square, Linn, Springburn, Tollcoss and Victoria.

The council has just completed the restoration of the Queen's Park Arena, complete refurbishment of the entrance gates, a new toddlers play area and the play area at Balvicar Street is about to be upgraded.

Glasgow's parks are there to cater for the local community.
