AMATEUR footballer Kieran Connachan has been shortlisted in a ­nationwide competition to win a professional playing contract with an English club.

Attacking midfielder Kieran, from Blantyre, will take part in the first round of trials for Samsung's Win A Pro Contract that could see him sign up for one of three Football League sides - Swindon Town, Wycombe Wanderers or Leyton Orient.

More than 5700 ­players from all over the country entered the competition and Kieran is one of 360 hopefuls through to the skill testing sessions.

The 21-year-old will be tested at Goals ­Soccer Centre, Leeds, on Sunday.

Hopefuls will be ­tested at regional skills trials and 11-a-side matches as they bid to kick-start their dreams of becoming a professional footballer.
