THE anxious wait is nearly over for thousands of pupils across Glasgow as they prepare to receive their exam results.

Envelopes will be landing on doorsteps across the city tomorrow morning.

They will be the first to receive the new National Qualifications, introduced last year.

As well as receiving their grades by traditional postal delivery, youngsters will also receive texts and emails with their scores.

This year, 37,237 candidates have opted for the electronic MySQA service.

Ahead of the results, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) is urging pupils to contact them if they have changed course or institution.

Bosses are expecting around 6000 young people to change their course during the clearing period, if their results are not what they expected.

As the new academic term approaches, David Wallace, Chief Executive of SAAS, encouraged people to get in touch early to ensure funding is in place.

He said: "We understand some students apply for a place at college or university for the first time during the clearing period, so they won't have applied for any fees, loan or bursaries yet.

"It's vital these students get their application to us as soon as they can. The same goes for those who have already applied to SAAS but are now changing their course or institution.

"They need to let us know what has changed so we can update their details and ensure their funding is put in place.

"We appreciate that the clearing period is a really busy time for those applying and it's easy for people to forget about the funding element of higher education, but it is important your SAAS application is taken care of as soon as possible."

Skills Development Scotland has urged parents and pupils not to panic and to call the Exam results helpline free on 0808 100 8000 if they have any queries.
