A NEW phone app to help young people in Greater Glasgow and Clyde quit smoking has been launched.
The app - R2Q (Ready to Quit) - was designed by young people.
NHSGGC Smokefree Services decided to reach young people using their preferred method of commun-ication in a bid to further reduce the numbers of young people smoking.
In 2002, in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 6% of 13-year-olds and 15% of 15-year-olds were regular smokers, compared to 4% of 13-year-olds and 13% of 15-year-olds in 2010.
As part of the planning process to create the app, people aged between 12 and 25 were asked to take part in a survey last December.
The results of the survey then helped design the building blocks for the app.
The survey found that more than 80% of young people owned a smart-phone and that 65% of those confirmed that they would use an app to help them stop smoking.
Mhairi Cameron, 17, who worked with a Greenock youth group and app developers, said: "We all got round the table with the designers and discussed how the app should look.
"We wanted to give young people a positive app with lots of useful information to help them quit."
R2Q is now available free for androids and at the Apple store.
