THREE mice were found dumped in a shoebox with a note reading "help us".

The Scottish SPCA is now appealing for information after the animals were found on Rosslyn Avenue in Rutherglen.

One of the domestic pets has had to be put to sleep after being injured, possibly in an attack from another animal.

Senior Inspector Billy Linton said: "Whoever dumped them didn't really give any thought to their welfare as they were left on a street at a time of day when they were unlikely to be spotted any time soon.

"The two mice we rescued are lucky to be alive given that a third mouse appeared to have been attacked by another animal.

"I would urge anyone who recognises these creatures and knows who might have owned them to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999."

The mice were discovered when a woman found the box on the pavement outside her house.
