THE Athletes' Village, which housed the stars of the Commonwealth Games, will open to the public this weekend for the first time.

Until now, the award winning development has been open only to those who have reserved homes.

But this weekend The Village show homes and sales centre will open to the general public as more than 100 properties go on sale.

They are only available to individuals, couples or families who intend to live in them and will not be sold to investors.

Almost 200 private homes have already been snapped up and tenants have started moving into the 400 housing association properties.

From this weekend onwards, interested house hunters will have the chance to choose from a range of ready to move into, one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes with prices starting from £80,000.

Many of them have stunning views over the River Clyde and the new woodland park at Cuningar Loop.

Four show homes, including a new one bedroom apartment called the Pink Rose and a two bedroom view apartment will give potential purchasers a feeling of what type of new home they could be living in.

Joanne Casey, sales and marketing director for developer City Legacy said: "The Village is very much back open for business with many fantastic value-for-money-homes available to buy and move in to straight away.

"This includes properties in the highly sought-after area four - many which have river views - which are being released for sale for the very first time.

"Sales of these distinctive homes have surpassed all expectations, in particular many first time buyers and families have chosen to buy here.

"The properties are terrific value for money - extremely spacious at a very affordable price. The Village has really captured the imagination of buyers and bridges that much needed gap for spacious and affordable living, just a few miles from the city centre.

"All the homes at The Village are complete so any potential buyers could be living here within just a few weeks."

Recently, city council leader Gordon Matheson announced that a new primary school is to be built in the Village
