SCOTLAND'S biggest regeneration project has scooped a major award.

Clyde Gateway has been named this year's winner of the Regeneration Award by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Scotland.

The awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land and property.

Judges looked at the effect a project or develop- ment had on the commun- ity and environment.

Clyde Gateway is playing a central role in the regeneration of the East End in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The company has outlined plans for £250million worth of construction and development this year.

The work includes phase one of the athletes village for the 2014 Commonwealth Games as well as an office development, a business park and the rebuilding of a railway station.

Ian Manson, chief executive of Clyde Gateway said: "This is a very proud moment for everyone at Clyde Gateway.

"It recognises the incredible support, vision and guidance provided by our Board over five years, the professionalism and dedication of the entire team and the wonderful way that the local residents and businesses have supported and backed our efforts to undertake a massive physical, social and economic transformation."

The RICS Award comes days after one of the major new developments in Clyde Gateway was acknowledged as the Best Commercial Workplace in Scotland.

The Scottish Chapter of the British Council for Offices made the award to Eastgate, the HQ for Glasgow Community Safety Services which opened in Bridgeton in April 2012.

Eastgate will now be one of five finalists for the overall UK Award to be chosen in October.
