CAKE maker Claire McCloy is savouring success and the 10th anniversary of her business.

It was nominated for the sixth time in the Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier (VOWS) awards, and the founder of One Fine Day is enjoying the public vote of confidence.

Satisfied customers nominated Claire's firm in the Cake Baking and Designer category.

Claire said: "It's a lovely thing to know, that people like what you do."

The 31-year-old started her business when she was 21 after completing a college course in cake decoration.

She attended the course at Glasgow College of Food Technology (now part of City of Glasgow College) where she learned the skills to create cake designs.

The mum-of-two specialises in wedding cakes but due to high demand, has expanded her catalogue.

The company launched at Claire's parents' home, but four years later she opened her own premises, in Queenslie.

Claire said: "I studied a course in cake decoration when I was 16, I have always loved decorating cakes and being creative with them. It's a family business.

"We always give an honest opinion and try to do the best for our customers."

The company can make a variety of designs, with more than 30 displayed in the shop.

These are then shipped across the country, as well as to Canada and Australia.

She said: "We try to stick as close to the Scottish Central Belt as we can as it can be tricky having cakes delivered far away.

"However, we have travelled as far as Fort William and often go to places such as the Brig o' Doon hotel in Alloway, Ayshire, to provide cakes for weddings which is a lovely thing to do."

One Fine Day is not the only project of Claire's that has rocketed in success.

In 2010, Claire's sister, Karen, and her mum, Nancy, came into partnership with her to open a bridesmaid dress shop on the second floor of the business.

The Finer Detail was launched after they felt there was a gap in the market for bridesmaids dresses when organising their own weddings.

Claire hopes that the business will eventually expand.

She said: "I would love to have another cake outlet somewhere in Scotland. It would be great to expand."
