GREAT British Bake Off finalist James Morton kicked off this year's charity coffee morning extravaganza.

The Glasgow University student launched Macmillan Cancer Support's annual World's Biggest Coffee Morning, which will be held on September 27.

Last year it raised £15 million to help support those affected by cancer across Scotland.

James said he was "delighted" to be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support.

He added: "The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is such a fun and easy event to get involved in.

"I encourage everyone to sign up to take part and raise as much money as possible for Macmillan."

The aim of the event is to get family, friends and colleagues together to enjoy home-made cakes and a coffee to help raise money.

All the money will go towards helping Macmillan fund specialist nurses, new cancer centres and grants to support people living with cancer.

Everyone who signs up will get a fundraising pack and lots of ideas on how to make their event a success.

Elaine Hamilton, Macmillan's fundraising manager for Glasgow and the West, said: "Last year we raised a record-breaking amount of money form the World's Biggest Coffee Morning and we really hope we can repeat that again this year.

"We're asking people to once again invite their friends, relatives or workmates to come for coffee and help support Macmillan.

"Every pound raised by those taking part in events like the World's Biggest Coffee Morning will help us fund our vital services."
