A GLITTERING charity ball raised more than £110,000 for sick children in Glasgow.

The Yorkhill Dinner, organised by Yorkhill Children's Foundation, saw stars line up to help generate cash for a hi-tech microscope for child brain surgery.

Television sports presenter Chris Hollins, who won the 2009 series of Strictly Come Dancing, singer Michelle McManus, comedian Andy Cameron and ex-Rangers' manager Walter Smith all turned out in support of the event.

And an impressive range of auction prizes – including dinner with singer Susan Boyle, a week in a Spanish villa and a five-a-side match against a team picked by Rangers' boss Ally McCoist – helped generate thousands of pounds.

Boyd Tunnock, boss of the famous Tunnock's biscuit factory, donated nearly £10,000 at the event in the Radisson Blu Hotel to win prizes to pass on to his staff.

Shona Cardle, chief executive of Yorkhill Children's Foundation, said: "To raise more than £110,000 in one evening is a fantastic achievement.

"We are truly grateful to everyone who came along and showed their support."

Foundation bosses are now looking forward to their next big event – its first Christmas Concert.

It will be hosted by actress Carmen Pieraccini, who plays Kelly Marie in TV soap River City.

It is hoped the concert will raise about £6000, which will be used to brighten Christmas for youngsters who have to spend the festive season in hospital.

The show will be in Glasgow City Chambers on December 2 at 7.30pm and Carmen said: "It promises to be a great night out for the entire family"

Taking part will be Kirkintilloch Male Voice Choir, the Junior Choir of the High School Of Glasgow and teenager Beth Adams, who was runner-up in this year's Open Mic UK competition.

Tickets, £10 for adults and £5 for children, with refreshments included, can be bought by calling 0141 201 6917 or from the website: www.yorkhill.org
