RESCUE teams were last night on standby to help a sperm whale which has swum off course on the west coast.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue is monitoring the mammal which was found in the shallow waters of Oban Bay.
The whale, normally found in much deeper waters, was first spotted four days ago, but experts said it was not obviously distressed.
It is thought that the whale is likely to be either lost or sick.
