GLASGOW 2014 has added two big names to the team tasked with making the Commonwealth Games a success.

Swimming star Rebecca Adlington has been named as a Glasgow 2014 Ambassador and commercial big-hitter Ty Speer has been appointed deputy chief executive of the Commonwealth Games.

London 2012 bronze medallist Rebecca will experience her first involvement with the Games at this week's launch of the official Glasgow 2014 mascot.

She will join Great Britain's most celebrated Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy, who was recently announced as the first Glasgow 2014 Ambassador.

Ty, client services director of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, starts his new role in November and he promised the people of Glasgow a "magical" event of which they will be forever proud.

In his new post, Ty will lead the Games' £100million commercial programme, as well as taking management responsibility for other areas of the Organising Committee.

The 46-year-old, originally from Atlanta in the US, said: "Glasgow 2014 is a dynamic and exciting opportunity and I am thrilled to be part of what will be a great success story for the city and for Scotland.

"The first job I have is to dive into the commercial programme as every event will rely heavily on the right level of funding.

"I think Glasgow 2014 will be a fabulous celebration for the city - the precedents have been set with London 2012 and it will be an exciting showcase for Glasgow, just magical.

"It is clear from the commitment shown and the enthusiasm generated that the Games already have a fantastic momentum.

"I look forward to maximising all opportunities to deliver an outstanding sporting and cultural celebration of which Scotland can be proud."

Ty has worked on a number of major events around the world and was a senior commercial manager of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Rebecca, 23, competed at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and won gold in the 400m and 800m Freestyle.

Glasgow 2014 Ambassadors are a select group of high profile sporting and celebrity figures. They will work with the Organising Committee to promote the Games.

Rebecca said: "It's a privilege to be involved as an Ambassador and I'm thrilled to be able to voice my support to the next major sporting event in the UK."

The 2014 Mascot will be revealed on Thursday at BBC's studios in Pacific Quay.
