Renfrewshire families are being urged to look out for new refuse collection calendars dropping through their letter boxes this week to find out what the changes mean for them.
From July 2, Renfrewshire Council's waste and recycling collection service will switch from the current Monday to Friday arrangements to a seven-day operation.
And the council says that means some residents will have a new day for collections, which could be a Saturday and Sunday.
A council spokeswoman said: "There will be collections on a Saturday and Sunday, but we are trying to keep disruption to a minimum and are changing as few collection days as possible.
"It may mean some people will have their bins collected at the weekend, but, as with week-day collections we will do our best to cause as little disruption as possible."
To keep the public informed, the council has prepared a calendar for each household within Renfrewshire showing the dates their bins need to go out, which will be arriving in the post from this week.
But although kerbside collection dates will change, the weekly collection service itself will not – the dark-grey bin for household waste and the blue bins for recycling will still be collected on alternate weeks, on the same day.
Households with kerbside boxes for glass recycling will see these collected every two weeks instead of every four, with the boxes to go out on the same dates as the blue bins.
The brown bins for garden waste will continue to be collec- ted on the same dates as the blue bins. The garden waste recycling service will run until the last recycling bin date in November.
To help keep residents up to date, the council is running roadshows throughout this month.
Councillor Jim Harte of the council's environment and infrastructure policy board, said: "Having kerbside collections over seven days will allow Renfrewshire's waste diversion and recycling performance to continue to improve, and will also make the best use of our resources.
"I would encourage all local residents to keep an eye out for the calendar being delivered.
"If anybody would like more information they can go along to their nearest roadshow, or call 0141 842 4448."
The roadshows dates are: today at Asda Linwood (4pm to 7pm); tomorrow at Morrisons Johnstone (3pm to 6pm); Friday June 22, Co-op Renfrew (3pm to 6pm); Monday June 25, Tesco Renfrew (11am to 2pm); Tuesday June 26, Johnstone Castle Community Centre (1pm to 4pm); Wednesday June 27, Bridge of Weir Livery Walk (1pm to 3pm); Wednesday June 27, Howwood Community Centre (4pm to 7pm); Thursday June 28, McKillop Institute Lochwinnoch (4pm to 7pm).
